AMIRA UPDATE — What It Is
The "Amira Update" is a social engineering fraud technique being spread on TikTok. It teaches users how to manipulate victims psychologically to extract money or personal data. It is a criminal offence under the Cybercrime Act 2015. Anyone caught faces 3–7 years imprisonment and asset forfeiture.
🧠
HOW SCAMMERS TARGET YOU
They create urgency ("act now or lose money"), build fake trust over time (romance scams), impersonate banks or family, or promise unrealistic returns. If it sounds too good, it is. Always verify independently before sending money or data.
🛡️
IF YOU'VE BEEN SCAMMED — ACT FAST
1. Contact your bank immediately — transactions can sometimes be reversed within 24hrs.
2. Screenshot all conversations and save evidence.
3. Report to EFCC: 0800 0323 500
4. Change all passwords and enable 2FA.
5. Report the account on TikTok/WhatsApp/Instagram.
👨‍👩‍👧
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY
Talk to children and teenagers about fraud on TikTok. The Amira Update targets youth by making fraud look glamorous. Remind them: every Yahoo boy you see flaunting money has a court date coming. The prison statistics are real.
📲
SOCIAL MEDIA RED FLAGS
Be wary of: DMs asking for your banking details, "investment" offers from strangers, TikTok tutorials on "making fast money," unsolicited friend requests from attractive strangers, and anyone asking you to receive money on their behalf. You become liable too.
⚖️
LEGAL CONSEQUENCES IN NIGERIA
Under the Cybercrime (Prohibition) Act 2015: fraud carries 3–7 years imprisonment. Identity theft: up to 7 years. Conspiracy to commit cybercrime: up to 15 years. Assets, phones, cars, and cash are seized upon arrest. There is no light sentence.

Safety Score: 0%Unprotected
2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is ON for all accounts
Enable 2FA on your bank app, Gmail, WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok. This stops most account takeovers.
I never share my OTP or BVN with anyone
No bank or legitimate service will ever ask for your OTP. Anyone who asks is a scammer.
I use unique strong passwords for each account
Use a password manager. Never reuse passwords. Minimum 12 characters with symbols.
I verify before sending any money
Always call back on a known number to verify any urgent payment request — even from "family."
My social media profiles are set to private
Scammers study your profile to craft targeted attacks. Limit who can see your personal information.
I do not click unknown links in DMs or SMS
Phishing links look real. If you didn't request it, don't click it. Go directly to the official website.
I've saved EFCC's number: 0800 0323 500
Save it now so you can report immediately if you or someone you know is being defrauded.
I've warned my family about TikTok fraud tutorials
The Amira Update and similar content targets young people. Talk to your siblings and children today.
I check my bank statements regularly
Review transactions weekly. Report unauthorized debits to your bank within 24 hours for best chance of reversal.
I do not accept money from strangers to "help transfer"
Money mule activity is a criminal offence. If someone asks you to receive and forward money, you ARE part of the fraud.
